This is the first video in a series of the lessons of the Russian alphabet and sounds for beginners. It this video I give a quick but useful overview of the Russian letters and sounds. You will learn:
1) The names of the letters,
2) The consonant sounds, thevowel sounds,
3) How to 'translate' the Russian letters to English.
In the end we'll have a quick exercise. This Russian lesson is practical, after watching it you'll be able to read and even understand some Russian words. Russian is a phonetical language, as long as you know the letters and reading rules, you can read most of the words pretty accurately. The Russian alphabet has 33 letters for a reason, there are letters for each sound and even for diphtongs (like 'ya' or 'yoo'). Also we have 'the hard sign' and 'the soft sing' that don't stand for any sounds.
